The Liberal News Media
vs.
The United States
by Maj. Robert B. Patterson
IN THE LAST few years our entire nation has become aware of the distorted news reporting of most segments of our national news media. For the past fifty years the South has been the victim of this biased and vicious attack now affecting our whole country.

This assault began at about the time of the “Black Monday” decision of the Earl Warren Supreme Court on May 17, 1954. This decision changed the lives of over fifty million Southerners and other Americans without their consent.

In order to arouse national resentment against the South’s attempt to use State laws to protect its children and schools a vicious campaign was launched by the liberal news media to portray our people as lawless bigots.

One example was the Emmitt Till case wherein a black teenager was allegedly killed by two white men who resented the young man’s insult to one of their wives. This case was selected because it involved a black victim and white assailants and the news was dramatized, illustrated and spread around the world. At the same time crimes by blacks against whites were practically ignored and downplayed.

Since Mississippi has the largest percentage of blacks of any other State—and therefore had more problems from the “Black Monday” decision—it was the ideal target for these attacks.

Life magazine of Oct. 10, 1955 stated that Emmitt Till’s father, Louis Till, was a soldier hero who had died for his country. Later it was revealed that his father was a criminal soldier who had been hung in Europe by the U.S. Army for the crime of rape and double murder. Before the war, Till nearly strangled his wife, who took out a court order to keep him away from her. A judge gave Till a choice between jail and the Army. He chose the Army. The press later received this information but failed to reveal it in the news. Fifty years later, September 25, 2005, the Chicago Tribune printed a news story of Louis Till’s burial with seventy-nine other black soldiers, all convicted and executed by the U.S. Army for crimes of rape and murder in Europe during World War II.

Just last month much publicity was given to the naming of Mississippi Highway 49 East as the Emmitt Till Highway by the black supervisors of Leflore County. Of course, no mention of his father, Louis Till, has appeared in the Southern newspapers, nor will it be.

The onslaught of bad publicity from the media caused Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As a result of the Voting Rights Act a voter does not even have to identify himself at the polls in Mississippi. One can only imagine the voter fraud that this invites.

Today in this country we have two political parties with a large black bloc vote threatening both parties and-exercising a disproportionate black power over our country. At the Rosa Parks memorial President Bush called for the renewal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which was originally set to expire in five years but has been renewed every five years because of the demand by the civil rights groups which can deliver the black vote.

The liberal media help to keep the blacks stirred so they will vote, usually Democrat, on election day by rehashing events that may have happened fifty years ago. How many times has Mississippi Burning been shown on TV?

According to Bob Herbert, black columnist for the New York Times nearly a third of all black men in their twenties have criminal records and 8% of all black men between the ages of 25 and 29 are behind bars. Although blacks are only 13 percent of our overall population in the U.S. they account for more than half of all new HIV infections. Black women account for an astonishing 72% of all new cases among women. Over two thirds of all black children are born out of wedlock.

We realize now that the civil rights revolution is not trying to simply acquire equal rights for blacks but seeks to bring about complete racial amalgamation.

The following story from USA Today, “Love is no longer color coded on TV” (Dec. 12, 2005), glowingly reports that, “Interracial pairings suddenly are integral to several of today’s top-rated TV shows, including Grey’s [Anatomy], Lost, My Name Is Earl and ER. . . . Watch MTV, and you’ll see videos with all kind of people interacting.”

Most advertising features black men, white women and all racial mixtures.

According to the most recent Census, interracial marriages grew from less than 1% in 1970 to nearly 6% in 2000.

The “Black Monday” decision of 1954 in effect put all public schools in all States under the control of the Federal government, taking the right to educate their children away from the States and the people. The results have been disastrous and have caused taxpayers throughout the land to organise private schools although they are still forced to support the government schools.

These civil rights bills have forced white people to flee from their neighborhoods all over our nation. The only defense against forced integration and government-controlled schools in the North, West and South is white flight and private schools.

Today there is a dark cloud over the American tradition of “free speech.” It is called “political correctness” and its standards are set by the civil rights groups. Anyone who speaks of any racial difference, however true, is branded a racist bigot or a hate monger. Those who speak the truth can lose their jobs or be subjected to economic pressure. Big business is kept in line by the threat of boycott by civil rights leaders. Witness the many who have spoken the truth and then had to grovel and beg to apologize.

Since 9-11 the liberal news media are now attacking our government’s efforts to protect our country and its people from terrorism, from hostile aliens, and our own home grown traitors. They seem to rejoice when our efforts in the Middle East have problems and violence against our troops and citizens occur. (Of course part of this may be party politics and Bush bashing.) The liberals ignore our successes or play them down. The fact that our troops have captured Saddam Hussein, have started an Iraqi government and are beginning to withdraw is ignored. The fact that we have had no more 9-11s in this country seems to make no difference to the liberals.

We all expect healthy dissent in our form of government and there must always be a loyal opposition. We should expect, however, a reliable impartial news media that will give both sides of all issues so that the voters can vote intelligently. At this time we do not have an impartial, honest media. There are few reliable news sources. Perhaps public demand and competition will change that.

And maybe, someday, an aroused citizenry will wake up and demand the repeal of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Maj. Robert B. Patterson in 1945, Provost Marshal of Berlin. His greatest fight lay ahead.
Editor's Note by Joel T. LeFevre

In this issue of the Citizens Informer, when we are again privileged to publish the latest column by our revered elder statesman, Maj. Robert B. Patterson, it’s an opportune time to reflect on the efforts of those who founded this movement, and have provided crucial leadership over the past 50+ years.

The Lord Jesus laid down the formula for genuine leadership when He said, “And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” Those who are regarded as leaders in our ranks earned that distinction first and foremost through tireless, selfless, and dedicated service.

Maj. Patterson is justly regarded as the father of Old Right Conservative activism. The head of his football team at MS State University and a genuine hero of World War II, he was not especially interested in political activities, being perfectly content working his farm and spending time with his family.

But when the Supreme Court struck on Black Monday, May 17, 1954, Maj. Patterson, like Cincinnatus of old, was roused to action to defend his kin and country. An exploratory meeting was held at his home on July 11, attended by local citizens from all walks of life. They agreed to call a public meeting at the city hall to discuss plans for resistance against the outrageous, unconstitutional encroachments of the Warren Court. This historic gathering was attended by 100 citizens, and led to the founding of the first Citizens Council.

From this humble beginning the Council movement spread throughout the South, with local and State affiliates forming to take part in the effort, known popularly as the Massive Resistance.

The Citizens Councils fought back against decades of Fabian socialist indoctrination—now backed by the awesome weight of Federal power—on every front possible: educating the public about the significance of racial difference, recurring to the reserved powers of the several States through the Jeffersonian doctrine of Interposition, and appealing to Southern heritage.

The battles were fought in courtrooms, in the media, even at the very steps of the local schoolhouse. The Federal response was one of reckless and brazenly lawless abuse of force, culminating in illegal, armed invasions of Sovereign States of this Union, in violation of the Constitution and Federal law.

In the face of this onslaught, Maj. Patterson and his fellow-patriots stood firm and unwavering. Their leadership has kept the movement alive and in the field, during a dark period in our history, when our people had lost a sense of their own destiny. Now the corner has been turned—our movement is on the rebound and growing daily, as it comes within years of its final day of reckoning. Bob Patterson did not fail! He laid the foundation for the movement that with God’s help will preserve our people and our Republic.

This struggle is not over; we are not preparing any concession speeches.
